Laughing is good exercise for promoting health

Share LAUGHING IS A GOOD EXERCISE Laughter is as good as exercise in promoting health and a sense of well-being, a new study says.  Lee S. Berk, preventive care specialist and researcher at Loma Linda University's Schools of Allied Health (SAHP) and Medicine, and Stanley Tan have come up with the study.  They have been studying the human body's response to mirthful laughter and have found that laughter helps optimise many of the functions of various body systems. Berk and his colleagues were the first to establish that laughter helps optimise the hormones in the endocrine system, including decreasing the levels of cortisol and epinephrine which lead to stress reduction.  They have also shown that laughter has a positive effect on modulating components of the immune system, including increased production of antibodies and activation of the body's protective cells, including T-cells and especially Natural Killer cells' killing activity of tumour cells. CBSE Class X results? Who cares!

Share New Delhi, May 25 -- The run up to CBSE's Class X results, which will be declared on May 28, is distinctly different this year. Sahil Sharma, a Class X student of Delhi Public School, Dwarka, is not a bundle of nerves. "Earlier, there was pressure to secure above 95 per cent in all subjects.  That's gone," he said. Sharma's not an exception. With the system of awarding marks at the secondary level having turned redundant, Class X students this time are relatively more relaxed.  Last year, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced that the Class X Boards would be discontinued from 2011. As for the 2010 batch, students will be awarded grades on a nine-point from A1 to E1 instead of marks. A student scoring an aggregate between 91 to 100 per cent, for instance, will be awarded grade A1 and an aggregate from 81 per cent to 90 per cent will translate into A2.  The competition among students and pressure from parents, as a result ha...

"I had not even considered a Western outfit .   I decided I was going to wear a sari. There are some people who will always find faults. If I had worn a gown, they would have said I should've worn a sari. Everyone told me I looked good. If some people have issues, I choose to ignore them," says the actress, who is currently shooting in Mauritius for Break Ke Baad. Fashion blogs too have been abuzz with how the actress looked just as she looks every time she wears a sari, with the same hair bun and styling.  She also repeated the jewellery that she wore at a recent awards function.
