INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY AND MEDICAL     Now, Indian Institute of technology will also produce Doctors with the Engineers. on Friday, this decision was taken in the meeting of IIT council headed by Human resource development minister  - ' Kapil Sibbal' .   Earlier Health ministry had rejected the proposal of opening of Medical college in the IIT, because IIT Act recommends only the teaching of Engineering in the IITs. Now, Government will add Medical  and Engineering in one way. Kapil Sibbal told that, all have agreed to have the study of medical in IITs. After the change in the Act, 15 IITs will have the power to open Medical Infrastructure. A bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi has been unveiled in the University of New South Wales in Sydney, as a mark of close ties the Indian community has with Australia.  The sculpture that stands in the lawns of the library of the University was gifted to the institution by the Indian government, along with a collection of books, an official statement said.  Sydney-based Indian diplomat Amit Dasgupta, who had presented the gifts in October last year when the crisis related to attacks on India students was at its peak, acknowledged the work being done by the University in maintaining close relations with the Indian community and providing a safe environment for Indian students.

BrahMos cruise missile test-fired from Orissa coast *BALASORE, ORISSA:* At 1135 hours on Sunday the advanced version of BRAHMOS Block?II was tested successfully from the interim test range (ITR) at Chandipur. The missile flew in the designated complex trajectory conducting large manoeuvres and steep dive. This is the first time in the world that a supersonic dive has been realised by a cruise missile. Eye-witnesses from the Indian armed forces termed it as a perfectly precise flight. The Defence Minister Shri AK Antony congratulated the armed forces and the defence scientists associated with the project with this success. The launch was conducted in the presence of Director General of Artillery, Lieutenant General Vinod Nayanar; Dr. AS Pillai, CEO & MD, BrahMos Aerospace; scientists from DRDO and Industry representatives along with officers from different units of the army. The Supreme Court (Apex court of India) on Monday stayed the death sentence of two terrorists in the daring Akshardham temple attack . In which 33 persons were killed and sought Gujarat Government's response to a plea for a re-investigation by CBI or any other independent probe agency.  The apex court also issued notice to the Gujarat Government on the appeal of death row convicts--Adambhai Sulemanbhai Ajmeri, Abdul Kayum alias Muftisaab Mohmedbha--and two others who alleged that tainted IPS officer D Vanzara, arrested in connection with the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case, had falsely implicated them in the September 22, 2002 attack in Ahmedabad.  The petitioner through counsel Anis Suhrawardy and Mehdi Imamam submitted before a Bench of Justices B Sudershan Reddy and S S Nijjar that they were erroneously convicted and sentenced to death by the Special POTA court by relying on false evidence produced by the Gujarat police which included Vanzara who at that t...

Apple faces a heavy blow to its iPad after Samsung unveiled its own device, rumoured to have half its price.  The Samsung Galaxy Tab(let) is smaller than the iPad, but it matches the Apple device in most other functions. Initial details hint at some aspects of the Samsung Tablet being even more advanced than the Apple version, reports the Daily Mail. Besides, Apple faces stiff competition from other techno-giants which are seeking to market their own touchscreen tablets before Christmas.  The iPad has registered a phenomenal success, selling three million units within the first three months of its launch this year, notwithstanding a steep starting price of pound429. No official prices have yet been announced for Galaxy Tab, however Samsung representatives suggest it could be just pound200.

Deccan Chargers will feature younger players in the season four of the Indian Premier League and the team would be scouting for talent in local tournaments, the franchise's vice-President E Venkat Reddy said on Friday.  "Deccan Chargers is one of the popular teams in India. Players are ready to come and play for Deccan Chargers. In season four also Deccan Chargers will do good.  We will have a younger side and two or three experienced players to guide them for the next two, three years," Reddy said.
