Celebrating life with countless festivals of India Festivals have been a part of India's tradition.Know more on the various festivals and their specialties.  I have grown up, lived and worked in many cities. When I think of all those cities, the first images to cross my mind are related to some or the other festival attended there. The massive pandals during Durga Puja in Kolkata, the food, the aarti ; Eid in Lucknow with iftar parties, biryani and kebabs; the Janmashtami in Mumbai with Govinda tolis and their dahi- handi act.

Ganpati Bappa Morya

Chants of 'Ganpati Bappa Morya' rent the air as lakhs of Mumbaikars on Thursday welcomed their favourite deity with fervour and gaiety amid celebrations kicking off the 11-day festival of Ganesh Chaturthi. People sang bhajans and offered prayers amid bursting of crackers and beating of drums.  Devotees feasted on favourite delicacies like 'karanji' and 'modak'. Ranging in different sizes and shapes, idols of Lord Ganesh were installed in pandals across the city after the traditional pooja with the 12-foot tall idol 'Lalbaughcha Raja' in Central Mumbai stealing the show.
