Celebrating life with countless festivals of India Festivals have been a part of India's tradition.Know more on the various festivals and their specialties.  I have grown up, lived and worked in many cities. When I think of all those cities, the first images to cross my mind are related to some or the other festival attended there. The massive pandals during Durga Puja in Kolkata, the food, the aarti ; Eid in Lucknow with iftar parties, biryani and kebabs; the Janmashtami in Mumbai with Govinda tolis and their dahi- handi act.

Ganpati Bappa Morya

Chants of 'Ganpati Bappa Morya' rent the air as lakhs of Mumbaikars on Thursday welcomed their favourite deity with fervour and gaiety amid celebrations kicking off the 11-day festival of Ganesh Chaturthi. People sang bhajans and offered prayers amid bursting of crackers and beating of drums.  Devotees feasted on favourite delicacies like 'karanji' and 'modak'. Ranging in different sizes and shapes, idols of Lord Ganesh were installed in pandals across the city after the traditional pooja with the 12-foot tall idol 'Lalbaughcha Raja' in Central Mumbai stealing the show. 

Details on Special Trains on the Eve of Festivals in August and September

Here, the the List and Details of Various Special Trains that have been run by Indian Railway on the Eve of Indian Festivals like Eid, Durga Puja, Diwali And Chhath Puja 2011 . Indian Railway has announced many special trains on occasion of Eid, Durga Puja, Diwali and Chhath in 2011. All special trains have general, 2nd class sleeper and 3rd AC sleeper coach. You can book reservation in special trains from booking counter or internet. The price of tickets are same as daily scheduled train. Railway will announce some Jan Shantabdi train also on some route.

Mahashivrati in Kashmir

  Mahashivrati  'Shivratri' festival is most scrupulously observed by the Kashmiri Pandits, the ancient and original inhabitants of Kashmir. They make thorough preparations and collect eatables, fruits and sweets. The entertainment of the Sivratri festival extends to about three weeks in Kashmiri Pandit house-holds. 

Makar Sankranti

Makar Sankranti  festival of Prayers to the Sun  Sun is considered as lord. Praying to the sun is even mentioned in the holy books too. This tradition seems to be in vogue since the time of 'Rigveda'. In one such holy book by the name of 'Bhavisyvetta Puraan' it was mentioned that a sun temple was made by 'Shamb' the son of 'Krishna' and 'Jaamvati'. Makar Sankranti is considered the best day to offer any form of sacrilege.

Chath Parva

Chath Parva is related to health our fasts and festival are scientific and salubrious Chath Parva is a big festival of north east state. It is a scientific and salubrious occasion of Indian tradition. Our ancestors had made many unique experiments for enrichment of our health by mixing science and religion together. Chath Parva is also a beautiful combination of religion and science. Chath Parva is celebrated on the sixth day of Kartik Shukla Paksha.  “Chath Parva is an occasion of celebrating chhati maiya and offering of libation to the uttrayan sun.”
