The 10th edition of the 2011 World Cup is underway in Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh as total of 14-team are competing in the event along with hosts India and Sri Lanka.
After the Bangaladesh national anthem was played out, the captains of respective teams entered the stadium on decorated rickshaws.
India singer Sonu Nigam then entertained the crowd with an English number.
Canadian rocker Bryan Adams helps kickstart the 2011 cricket World Cup on Thursday at the tournament's opening ceremony, marking the start of a gruelling six-week sporting marathon.
Favourites India will go into the tournament opener against Bangladesh on Saturday in Dhaka in buoyant mood after two wins in their warm-up matches, including a crushing 117-run victory on Wednesday over New Zealand.

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 tournament will begin today evening with a spectacular opening ceremony at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka. Bangladesh Prime Minister Shekh Hasina will inaugurate the tournament which will take place in India, Bangladesh and Srilanka. The Chairman of the Media Committee of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, Mr. Mohammed Jalal Yunus told All India Radio that the inaugural ceremony show will be of two hours 15 minutes duration with three main segments showcasing the cultural heritage of India, Bangladesh and Srilanka in addition to a special performance by rock star Bryan Adams.
In addition to this there will be a colourful show of LED kites before the opening ceremony concludes with a spectacular show of fireworks to mark the beginning of the month long cricket tournament in the sub continent. The Indian team which will be playing the inaugural match against Bangladesh on February 19th reached Dhaka today morning to participate in the inaugural ceremony.
All roads in Dhaka lead to the Bangabandhu National stadium which will host the inaugural ceremony of the ICC Cricket world Cup 2011. The newly renovated stadium is all decked up for the big moment in the country’s cricket history. Fans have begun flocking to the stadium several hours ahead of the opening ceremony.
A three tier security cover is in place across the city to prevent any untoward incident. Ahead of the opening ceremony the captains of all the 14 teams will come together for the first time to meet the media along with the ICC cricket World cup trophy they will be competing for. The magnificent opening ceremony will showcase Bangladesh’s 1971 liberation war and the 1952 Language Movement through various forms of dances, songs, and a dazzling laser show. Apart from this there will be segment celebrating India’s culture called 'Symphony of Colours' while the spectators will get a glimpse of Sri Lankan culture in the segment 'The Pearl of Indian Ocean'.
