CWG official merchandise launched on thrusday

The long wait finally came to an end on Thursday with the Organising Committee launching the official merchandise for the Commonwealth Games with 29 types of products up for sale across Delhi. The official Games merchandise will be available at the store being set up at the OC headquarters in New Delhi and includes branded sportswear like T-shirts, jackets, casual wear, kids apparels, generic items like umbrellas, key-chains, mugs, accessories like caps, bags, wristbands and cultural and handicraft items.  The product prices will range from Rs 25-300 and no product has been priced more than Rs 300 in the first phase of the merchandise launch. "In the beginning, we will start with the single store in the OC headquarters, as well as four mobile vans that will take the merchandise to the doorsteps," said Suresh Kumar, chairman of Premier Brands Limited (PBL). Four wrestlers, two athletes of India caught for doping

Arjuna Awardee wrestler Rajiv Tomar and Commonwealth Games medal prospect shot putter Saurav Vij were among six athletes caught for doping on Thursday and they were handed provisional suspension by National Anti-doping Agency. Wrestlers Sumit (74kg), Mausam Khatri (96kg) and Rajiv Tomar (120kg), who were named in the Commonwealth Games squad in men's freestyle, and Gursharanpreet Kaur (women's 72kg) tested positive for Methyl Hexaneamine, a non specified substance. "The wrestlers from Commonwealth Games team have tested positive for Methyl Hexa Neamine (non specified substance) as per the report received from NADA," a statement from Wrestling Federation of India President G S Mander said. Rajiv Tomar was recently conferred the Arjuna Award. Pakistan's tainted trio to be quizzed by Scotland Yard

Pakistan's tainted trio of Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamir will face another round of questioning from the Scotland Yard for their alleged involvement in the 'spot-fixing' scandal that has rocked international cricket. Meanwhile, England's Players' body demanded the trio's ouster from the Twenty20 and ODI series. The trio, which has been implicated in the scandal after a sting operation by a British tabloid, is set to be quizzed by the Scotland Yard for the second time but they are not in danger of being arrested, a Pakistan Cricket Board official said. Their meeting with Pakistan High Commission officials here has, however, been postponed to Thursday. ICC CEO Haroon Lorgat will meet PCB chief Ijaz Butt as scheduled in London today to discuss the scandal that has plunged the game into a crisis.

The US has decided to release a postage stamp in the honour of India's Nobel prize winner Mother Teresa on 5th September, the US Postal Service has announced. "The US Postal Service will pay tribute to Mother Teresa, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for her humanitarian work," the USPS said in a statement. "Noted for her compassion toward the poor and suffering, Mother Teresa, a diminutive Roman Catholic nun and honorary US citizen, served the sick and destitute of India and the world for nearly 50 years," it said. The postage stamp would be unveiled at a function in Washington on 5th September. The stamp features a portrait of Mother Teresa painted by award-winning artist Thomas Blackshear II of Colorado Springs in Colorado. Every year, the US Postal Service releases a series of commemorative stamps, honouring people, places and institutions. These stamps remain on sale for a limited period and are widely collected. Decks were cleared for launching 3G mobile and broadband services in India

Decks were cleared on Wednesday for launching 3G mobile and broadband services in the country, with the government allocating air waves to private operators after making certain amends to the licence terms.  The operators are authorised to use the spectrum for a period of 20 years from 1st September, according to the amended licence conditions that allows companies to offer 3G services till the validity of the spectrum even if their telecom licences expire prior to that. The government has imposed a roll-out obligation, under which the service providers would have to cover at least 90 percent of the service areas in the metros within the next five years.  Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, RCom, Tatas, Idea Cellular, Aircel and S Tel were the operators who had bagged 3G spectrum in the auction in May that fetched the government over Rs 51,000 crore apart from about Rs 16,000 crore from the two telecom PSUs -- BSNL and MTNL.
